Pablo Guerrero introduced coffee to the Tangua area in 2000 — the first to plant it there. His hundred-hectare family estate, Hacienda El Obraje, had grown wheat for years before imports made that untenable. A decade of experimenting with fruit trees came next, then coffee. The gamble paid off. By 2009, Pablo had built his own mill and entered the specialty market. The volcanic soil, extreme daily temperature swings, and high mineral content in this part of Nariño produce a dense, expressive coffee.
